squashpup "squashpup" (WV):I have had several LG Tracfones in the past and they were always quality products. The LG840g is no exception. I got mine to replace a LG500g that I had for over a year. After one week, here are my impressions.
The phone itself is about the size of an Ipod Touch, and similar in shape and appearance. It looks expensive. The "wake" button is recessed which makes it difficult to hit accidentally, and the volume buttons are on the side where they would be on an Ipod. The buttons on the front are capacitive touch, like the screen.
It is not a smart phone and runs a java based proprietary operating system which allows the installation of .jar apps.
Battery life depends on how you use it. I left the WiFi running and the battery drained to one bar in 24 hours. It didn't shut down, but it was definitely low. Only using the WiFi occasionally, the battery is still on full bars after 3 days. I haven't run the phone all the way down yet, but the advertised standby is over 10 days.
rainsong:If you are wanting a REAL smartphone phone to connect to the internet, surf the web, check e-mails etc. this phone is not for you. If you are wanting a phone that is WAY better than the flip phone you previously had through Tracfone (plus triple minutes for life!) than it is well worth the $45.00. I've been a tracfone guy for 10 years. I have a land line, I have a computer at work & home and a laptop I can travel with. I don't talk on the phone or text that much (200 minutes a month if I'm lucky). I just couldn't justify a REAL smart phone like an Iphone or droid and a $50+ a month bill when i'm paying less than $15 now. I mainly got this phone because frankly I was embarrased to be seen talking on my flip phone and texting was a joke without a keyboard. I HAVE connected to the internet but you have to jump through so many hoops it really isn't worth it and that's with the Wi Fi. I wouldn't even waste my minutes trying to get on the internet with 3G
J. Mitchell : IF you're not me and you don't require a super fancy phone with tons of gadgets, widgets and apps and you're just looking for a phone that will get the job done, then look no further than this phone. It's a very good phone and it gets great reception no matter where I'm at, inside or outside. This little baby has 5 bars of strong signal everywhere I use it. And while it's not one of the "I just gotta have it" phones, you won't be disappointed by it's functionality. It has everything you need from a pretty decent camera with a zoom function, Wi-Fi, 3G, Games, and a Music Player. This phone comes with a 2GB mini storage card but it has the capability to use up to a 32gb card. The storage card is used for your music. You download your tunes to the card, put the card into the phone and viola, you have music on your phone. Not hard to do. It's a good deal at a great price.

T. Gainer "Coffee & Tea lover" (Lockport, IL USA):I'm a Consumer Cellular customer. Consumer Cellular is an ATT reseller with no contracts and great rates. I've had the LG Thrive for a week and I now see why everyone raves about the Android OS. Thousands of Apps, fast response and easy to learn. LG makes a quality phone and the Thrive is solid and fast for the money I paid. Definitely a good phone. I'm looking forward to learning everything it can do
Karen Halley :a relaible phone. A very good price for this phone that can do a million things. I live in the caribbean, and I just put my chip in and it worked right away. It is very good for using the internet and it's very user friendly. Glad I bought this phone instead of a more pricey one, it does the same things the more pricey one do and it also takes realy nice pictures.
Konrad Finck (Chicago, IL USA) :I purchased one of these phones 2 1/2 years ago and I have been well satisfied with it. I recently purchased a second identical phone for my wife. It's not the most high powered phone, but it works well, runs all the apps I need, and can be used on AT&T's pay-as-you-go plan without a data plan. I wanted a phone that could be used as a wi-fi only smartphone, and this one fills the bill. Since I don't do a lot of calling, my total average phone charges for most months is about $14.

SmartCookie :My husband and I both have this phone. For a touch screen, it works pretty well. I like all the features and they are easy to use. The screen does play scroll crazy once in a while but I think that is typical for a touch screen. Battery life is pretty good, I plug it in every 2-3 days. I've had better but I've also had worse. I've dropped the phone a few times and it still works great, but it seems that it is designed to have the back pop off and the battery fall out if you even drop it from a couple inches above a surface. Sound has never been an issue, on speaker phone or otherwise. Not too many ringtones/alarms available but who really cares about that anyway? I'm not in love with this phone but I really don't have any complaints either.
David :Before I decide to buy this phone, I have read all the reviews. But I bought it because of the price. I just wanted to use it for calling and texting, and did not want to pay much for just phone and become slavery to contract.
Mine is unlocked phone, and have no problem to use with T-Mobile. I have used it for 3 days so far. I have not experienced any problem that other guys mentioned on the reviews. Phone is enough small and light to put it in small pocket. Functions are simple and convenient to manipulate. Touch screen and calling quality is enough good. If you have a touch screen accuracy problem for texting, just recalibrate it. There is a recalibrate function on the device.
A couple of thing that I don't like is: 1) Camera does not provide enough good quality images. 2) It is not easy to control scrolling on touch screen. (I am not sure this is a device problem or mine). Except for these two problems, everything is ok. If you guys like to use internet on phone, you need to buy bigger and more expensive ones. If not, this phone is enough good.
Gerry C. "Gerry" (Michigan) :Phone looks nice, came unlocked, slipped the old sim card in & it was ready to go. Bought it for my 14 yr old daughter, rather then upgrading to a 4g phone with monthly media fee plan. since she usses it, her opinion of it was texting was iffy, screen freezes alot and is slow to change. best bet is to stay away from this phone. Good camera on this phone though.

JAE :SUPER PHONE OF SUPER PHONES! Why only 3 stars? Well, there are plenty of functionality issues. It took me a few hours to read around and get the phone to function as it should have out the box. To break it down, I will list the problem and tell you what I had to do to fix it. 1. Android 2.2 was horrible - Upgraded to 2.3 through LG Mobile Support Tool on LG website 2. Wifi would not connect at all - Downloaded FXR WiFi fix and rescue App, 3. GPS did not find any satellites - Downloaded GpsFix(paid version)App, free version has invasive adds. 4. Since I use Simple Mobile the APN would jump back to T-Mobile settings - Downloaded APN Manager to delete T-Mobile APN.
The first and last ones are on me. Yet, Wifi & GPS is a must for any phone that is supposed to be smart. 5 stars if I didn't have to do anything. 4 would make people think it was a preference issue versus hardware issues. 3 is what I got out of the box, plus had to pay for an app to make it function properly. After all the issues being fixed it is a 4.5 phone.
**BATTERY LIFE IS GARBAGE!** - Downloaded Green Power PREMIUM (Free app is too limited to see results), took me two days to adjust it perfectly. Went from requiring to be plugged in ever 4+ hours to 8+ Hours with normal activity.
Patrick Jones (New Orleans, LA):I got one of these early in the summer. In its original incarnation, the phone had a lot of software and hardware issues. The software update that came out in early August was a spectacular improvement. It transformed the phone from an annoyance into something that is really a pleasure to use. T-Mobile took this phone off the market for a while over the summer, and I think the time was spent on tightening up quality issues. I got two new G2Xs in mid-August and both are great phones.
A.M.T.:Speed - it's just fast. Everything.
Stable - no crashes ( in first week)
Wifi - Wifi N is great.
"4g"- aka HSPA+ - I'm seeing 10,000 kbps download. Yeah, it's stupid fast.
Wifi Calling works well.
Sound and call quality is excellent
Size - Nice and thin....
Screen - nice and bright, works in daylight

LG G2, Black Discount
M. Atlas (Madison, WI):This is by far the best phone on Verizon, IF you're willing to spend some time tweaking it to get around the somewhat annoying customizations that LG and Verizon have stuck on the phone.
The G2 has wayyy better hardware than anything else you can get on Verizon right now. I also played with the Moto X & Droid Maxx in store and the G2's overall smoothness, ability to run a bunch of apps at the same time, or lots of tabs in Chrome, etc is a noticeable improvement over those phones. Rock solid.
LG & Verizon's software layered on top of stock Android is not very good. I had to spend a couple hours getting the phone set up how I wanted. Now that I did that initial work I'm loving the phone.
If you want a nice clean Android experience right out of the box then this is probably not the phone for you. But if you're willing to do some tweaking it's worth it for the hardware. I've got some of my tweaks listed in the cons section.
rdurand :This phone really does leave the GS4 and One in the dust (Speakers & design wise the One is still better imo). This should be expected though with a phone running more advanced hardware. Overall I couldn't be happier and feel that my $600 (yes I bought off contract) was well worth it. This phone easily will get you through a full day of use (I'm on Verizon btw) if not more. I check my phone all the time, constantly stream music/video, and have yet to drop the battery below 40% in a day. Not sure if this is new to smartphones but this thing charges incredibly quickly too. From dead to full charge is probably in the 90 minute range, something I really like.
The Graphite Girl (TEXAS y'all!) :i was a Sammy girl /HTC Chick for years, constantly bouncing back & forth between the two, but my last 4 phones have been all LG....the attention to detail LG and the "level of customization options" has used in the designing of this UI is simply amazing.
If i could change ONE thing, it wouldn't be about the phone, it would be about ALL the criticism LG's UI has received from people who either haven't even laid eyes on it or ppl who do have the phone and haven't bothered to learn it....While YES there are a gabillion options, almost all can be ignored or disabled, & even EASILY replacing ANY icon you don't care for with a photo, image, etc. but YET are "there if you need them WITHOUT slowing down the system ONE iota!".

samantha:I got this phone for christmas and I love it. It is my fist smartphone with data. the screen is huge for great display. when i first got it it was so fast. and after downloading just a few apps it slowed down dramatically. When I try to go to my camera i have to wait and wait for it to get to it. when i want to go into the gallery i will sit and wait for the pics to load and it takes forever. I have to back out of it and go back in. When i search for something on the browser and select the one i want to go to..if i hit the back button it completely exits out of the browser. I have to research all over again. I do like how you can download diff themes for the phone and the sms. it is very "personalize-able". if you stay on the internet or just the phone itself alot the phone will die before the end of the day. I keep a car charger and just automatically plug it up when I get in the car. It has alot of memory and is very easy to use and understand. overall i love it. I just dont like the occasional slowness.
Shane:This phone randomly restarts in the middle of anything (trying to call someone, looking at your gallery, youtube videos, trying to text, ect.) It lags so hard I want to throw it across the room. Speaking of, the only thing that is good about this phone is that it is built like a nokia and will not die, even though I have tried. I tried to call someone, it lagged for about 20 seconds before restarting, then it took 3 minutes to initialize so I could click on anything, then finally call them. I finished 2 cigarettes before I could get this phone to call. I don't know how I have put up with this phone for this long, but I am willing to shell out a couple hundred for a samsung note II or something. This phone can die in a fire, and I would if it was not good for one thing, sending it in for a $20 discount on a new phone.
Yoszie (KY, USA):If this phone actually WORKED it'd be great. The only thing I don't like about it when it's working is that there is no option to use the power button to end calls.
But it has too many issues. I don't have time to list them all so here are the issues I've had with it JUST TODAY:
This phone lags so much that it's impossible to do much on it. I'm not just talking browsing the internet or running apps...it takes forever to freaking unlock the phone!
It closes out of whatever I'm doing completely randomly.
It will freeze with the screen just solid black & even the power button won't work & I have to take out the battery to fix it. (This really sucks when you're in the middle of leaving an important message & you have to end with "...so, uh...yea...my phone won't let me hang up, sorry. Just ignore the rest of this message." & then wait for the voicemail to disconnect you.) & this happens a TON.

George E. Jelly "GeorgeJ" (Heidelberg, GER): I just bought this phone (in Germany) a few days ago and would have paid less for it on Amazon. It has a gorgeous, very bright and high resolution display - so bright that I have kept it set at minimum brightness. I tested it outside today, under a partially cloudy sky - and I could clearly read the display when it was set to maximum brightness!! LG has done a surprisingly good job of customizing Android (2.2.2 for now) on it. Info on the internet indicates that LG will release Gingerbread for it in SEP 11 for those concerned about 2.3 and higher. It has lots of extra widgets and apps - like battery and cellular data usage - that you would normally have to get from the market. Excellent battery life despite the bright display - it's kinda early to tell but I've gotten two full days with normal usage. Cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity are also great - and no sound problems or dropped calls. I have two concerns with it though. First, the main part of the phone is very well built but the battery cover is too thin in my opinion - the phone itself doesn't creak or bend but it sure seems as if the back/battery cover won't take much abuse. That being said, the phone does feel solid with the battery cover locked in place. And, related to this, the battery cover is also tricky to remove so this isn't a phone that you would want to frequently swap the chips in. Last but not least, the included Euro charger is huge and it looks pure Stone Age - shame on you LG!! ***** Edited to add a couple more points: This is a small thing but a big plus in my opinion: LG modified Android to allow screen captures on the P970! All you have to do - kind of like on the iPhone - is press home and power at the same time and the screen is captured. Also - after two full days of moderate usage (easy to track battery usage in Android) it was at 42% battery remaining.
Compra recomendada.
Mónica C. "Mokab" (Montevideo, Uruguay) :I've been using my LG 970 Optimus Black for two months now and I simply love it! I bought it unlocked for use in Uruguay, South America. It's light and slim, very comfortable to handle and use, with an awsome display, very clear and bright, even under direct sunlight, and also very responsive to the touch. Very fast on the Internet and mail. It also takes very good pictures with or without flash, with lots of settings to personalize your shots as you wish. I've downloaded many cool applications from the Android Market, most of them free or with very low cost. The only thing I'm not completely satisfied with is battery life. With a moderate use of Internet, WiFi and 3G on only during the day, it lasts less than a day. However, after installing Juicedefender Ultimate from the Android Market, it now lasts aproximately a day and a half ... not that bad. But its excellent performance and sound quality greatly compensate for this drawback.
